How to recycle cosmetic packaging?
How to recycle cosmetic containers? You have probably asked yourself this question at some point: you finish a cream, moisturizer, exfoliator, sunscreen, etc., and you don't know how to dispose of its container. If you want to know how to act to ensure a correct recycling method, read on. Below we explain what to do, depending on the container material.
How to recycle cosmetic containers
The recycling process of cosmetic containers varies depending on the material or materials used for their manufacture. Currently, in the world of cosmetics you can find glass, aluminum or plastic containers. Whether we are talking about cosmetics in glass, plastic or aluminum containers, all three options are totally valid for recycling. Pay attention to the following tips. We tell you how to act in each case.
Recycling of cosmetic glass containers
The ideal way to recycle the cream jar is to first empty the container to remove any remaining product, and then dispose of it in its corresponding container. You should also remove the label from the container if possible.
Taking into account that nowadays one of the trends that is spreading is to try to make products more and more environmentally friendly, as far as packaging is concerned, the aim is to make packaging more and more sustainable.
Glass and/or crystal containers, which are associated with luxury concepts and are usually characteristic of perfumes, should be deposited in the green container.
Recycling of aluminum and plastic cosmetic containers
The destination of cosmetic containers made of aluminum and/or plastic will be different: they should be deposited in theyellow container .
After depositing the cream jar in the yellow container, these plastics will be transported to a treatment plant, where they will be sorted by type of container. After sorting, they will be shredded and then passed through the washing phase, where other non-plastic materials will be removed.
With the centrifugation and drying process, the material is left free of water and clean to finally obtain small balls called pellets, which is what will be used as raw material to manufacture other products. With the recycled pellets, products such as clothing, pipes, other containers, etc. can be made. By taking this material to the yellow container, we manage to reduce the amount of waste, which we generate in our day to day, as well as reducing the harmful gases emitted when manufacturing it.
Below, we leave you a series of identifying acronyms to know that, if your cosmetic packaging contains them, you must deposit it in the yellow container:
1.- PET - Polyethylene Terphthalate
2.- HDPE- High Density Polyethylene.
3.- PVC - Poly Vinyl Chloride
4.- LDPE- Low Density Polyethylene
5.- PP- Polypropylene
6.- PS- Polystyrene.
