Difference between a repellent and an inhibitor
When we tell you about the special jellyfish effect of our sunscreens, you often ask yourself the following question: Is Solar Jellyfish a jellyfish repellent or a jellyfish inhibitor? The answer is very simple: our creams act against jellyfish as an inhibitor. Read on, below we explain the difference between them.
What is a repellent and how does it work?
If a product is classified as a "repellent", it means that its ingredients will keep the insects or animals in question away from our skin. Humans generally attract insects, ticks and other arthropods by the simple act of emanating heat and sweat. Perfumes and creams also help attract the attention of these animals.
To prevent these animals from remaining on our skin long enough to bite, the repellent forms a barrier on the surface of our dermis. This is achieved thanks to specific active ingredients, such as DEET (N,N-Diethyl-m-toluamide), a chemical compound that confuses animal receptors and interferes with their perception of environmental odors.
The result is a kind of disorientation caused in animals, as they do not know exactly where to bite. They are disoriented and do not approach the part of our body where we apply the product. The duration of this protection varies according to the concentration of DEET used in the repellent formula. It is important to keep in mind that the repellent is not a cosmetic or drug and its regulation is given, in most territories, by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
What is an inhibitor and how does it work?
A product that acts as an inhibitor has the property of interrupting a certain process or chemical response. Safe Sea® falls into the category of inhibitors.
As indicated by studies conducted by Standford University, Safe Sea® contains in its formula exclusive and patented ingredients, which protect against accidents caused by jellyfish. It forms a protective chemical barrier on the skin. In fact, as Dr. Amit Lotam, creator of Safe Sea®, says, from a regulatory standpoint, terms like "barriers", "prevention", "impediment" and "protection" are better and more accurate in describing what our product does. Let's take an in-depth look at how this happens:
Acting as chemical inhibitors, Safe Sea® components block the locations on the jellyfish 's body where the burning process is activated. By blocking the sensory cells of these animals and preventing them from identifying the person as a possible threat, i.e. a possible "predator". It should be noted that the venom released during contact with jellyfish is nothing more than a natural defense mechanism for the animal, which is activated whenever it feels threatened. Therefore, if there is no identification of threat, the "sting" does not occur.
Safe Sea® is a product with unique features. With this jellyfish inhibitor, you can enjoy the summer with more peace of mind and safety.
