Mom I'm bored, so buy a donkey.

Mom I'm bored, so buy a donkey.

Do you remember when we were little and there were days when none of our toys amused us? We had played with them a thousand times and, although we usually always found some way to take advantage of them, there were other days when our head decided to relegate them to oblivion.

So, faced with the prospect of a long afternoon of boredom, we decided to say that magic word that always worked for us: "Momáááááááááá! I'm bored....

But those were times when mothers solved conflicts with proverbs, so we were content to take a "buy a donkey! for an answer, and the rest was up to us.

To have an alternative to the boredom of children, we propose you to implement the Boredom Jar trick to end the reluctance of children. A magical solution against idleness, and much more creative than buying a donkey.

Boredom canister to end children's boredom

Nowadays we are more committed parents, so we fill our children's afternoons with workshops, courses and extracurricular activities. However, this over-stimulation of children ends up being counterproductive, since children should be bored. Only with boredom does the mind begin to develop imagination and creativity, learn to resolve pending conflicts, and bring to light the most deeply rooted ideas within.

On the other hand, it is important that children learn to manage their leisure time in ways other than the quick formula of watching TV or taking the tablet, but with more enriching activities.

The boredom canister against children's boredom is one of those resources that we can use for those afternoons when we want our children not to be bored and to unfold their imagination with new activities.

How to do it?

It is very simple:

1- Choose with your child a glass jar with a lid.

2- Ask the child to write on slips of paper things he/she would like to do, for example: Make a puppet with socks.

3- Then we introduce all the notes inside the jar and cover it.

4- When the child is bored, he will only have to uncover the jar, put his hand in and choose one of the papers. This way he can do one of those things that he always leaves for another time.

The possibilities are endless! Here are some ideas to put in the jar:

- Making music with water-filled crystal glasses

- Disguise myself and make a theater for my parents.

- Making puppets from old socks

- Baking a cake

- Make a monster ball smasher out of a cardboard box

- Make a collage with magazine clippings

- Doing a dance to music

- Painting with watercolor

- Writing a story

- Making a hut with towels and clothespins

- Sew buttons to an old T-shirt and paint it.

- Make a necklace with macaroni or pumpkin seeds.

- Making a boat out of popsicle sticks

- Play Blind Man's Blind Man's Bluff

- Making shadow puppets on the wall

- Making a painting with tree leaves

- Playing a board game

- Create an ecosystem inside a glass jar with stones, moss and small plants.

- Painting stones

- Experiment with mixing flour and spices from the kitchen.

Try it! You are in for a great afternoon with the family.
